Not to add more things on your agenda, but I got an email from Obi-WanJay:

Obi-WanJay here i hope you can help me if not could you please forward this
to someone who can. i'm having problems logging into the JKOC website. i leave
myself logged in and after the update i was logged off. i lost my password and
went to the recover password screen entered my name and was told i would
receive an email with a new password. i never received the email with the new
password.

I know Reborn-Jedi is having a similar problem, if there's anyone else having trouble when they log in (and can't get the reply) go ahead and email them to me (link in my profile) and I'll forward them to BMack and Beltayn.

UPDATE: i've just spent the past hour trying to replicate the error i'm having people tell me about on the emoticons. turns out it appears to be a problem with Internet Explorer and i think i've got a workaround in place.

give your browsers some time to clear and refresh their chaches, unless you know how to do it manually, and please let me know if the problem persists.

You want to know why I don't like the site?

First off, its ugly. Plain and simple. The icons next to threads are horrid, I don't like the folders or the cogs or any of the other ugly doodads. And the icons when posting a message are even more hideous. Also, I now get a scroll bar on the bottom of the screen, even at 1024x768 resolution! It's like the entire forum just took 50 steps backwards. Congrats, this forum now looks like its from the late 90's. I don't see anything good about this forum now, and I don't really care much for the quick reply feature, either. Sometimes it's best to leave something alone when noone has a problem with it. Because of this changeover, I couldn't login anymore because my Firefox browser forgot what my password was, and I couldn't auto-login anymore. This has been quite an inconvinience for me for a while now, and finally I was able to log back in today.

Secondly - noone had any prior knowledge of this happening. No advanced notice, nothing. Nor did anyone have a chance to vote for this PRIOR to the changeover. It seems our site admin decided to just do it his way. I understand Brian is the site admin and all, but even so, I believe the rest of us have the right to choose and vote before he did something like this. I see by the voting that the majority likes this new look anyhow (which I can't fathom why), but that's besides the point. The point is that people just like to do things without other people's opinions or consent around here, and I'm sick of it. I'm seriously contemplating my council role in this group...no, scratch that. I'm contemplating my membership overall.

This doesn't have as much to do with me disliking the site as it does with the reason I just described above. If everyone is just going to do things their way all the time, I'm just going to leave. I'm fed up with this, and I hope you all can see why.

I think you are going a little over board...the quick reply is the best feature I have ever seen on a forum board...I am still living in the caveman ages and have dialup so for me not to have to sit here and wait for my page to refresh after I hit the reply button is TWO THUMBS WAY UP TO BRIAN for making this feature available to us. I bow to him. Firefox browser...dude...sorry but Microsoft just about owns everything so I just stick with IE despite all of its problems at least every web page will work on the net...and third this is a change to a website forum.,..not the people in the group...we are not turning our backs on you like the Jedi did to Anakin (sorry had to add that) Brian is simply improving overall on what has been a successful forum board thus far and I and others think he did a good job. Do people like change heck no but a sad fact is that majority rules. Do you think I like the fact that George Bush was forcefully elected President again...heck no but do you see me considering leavin the United States...no.

I think I'm going to kill myself. I didn't realize the website alterations were worse than Hitler's plans for domination (Bmack how can you live with yourself you vile filth). I hope a piano falls on me.

to address your first point: Krash, how was that advance notice i gave you? Mike, your advance notice? Don, Zod? remember the site upgrade i talked about at the meeting Will was absent from due to his "war at the shore" attendance? how about all those policy revisions in the Jedi Council forum that were reviewed for the site update? so Will, Council had full advance notice of these changes. if you don't respond to those threads or show up to those meetings or take an active role in helping to make these decisions, then the decisions will be made without you...

so, these changes happened... you have two options:

first, help me make it work for everyone, (where everyone has been doing a very good job providing feedback that can help me address specific problems)

-or-

second, run the site yourself... this is a volunteer effort from everyone involved. and if you don't like the product that's being put out there, you're welcome to make a better one.

on a side note, personally i am highly offended by the way you have handled this Will. these are issues that should be addressed in private, or in Council. not aired out for the entire site to read.

so congratulations Will... your manner in bringing this to the forefront has me questioning why i take an extra three hours a day out of my own life to sit in front of a computer and learn an open source content management system backwards and forwards and make it work. but at least i'm pleased with the paycheck i'm receiving for this. oh wait, it's volunteer. i forgot. oh, and never mind the fact that i'm hosting the site out of my own pocket. so thanks Will for letting me know where i stand with you: firmly in, no check that... under a pile of bantha fodder.

so, to everyone involved: help me make it better. and if you can't articulate how you want it to get better, be patient and work with me to try and figure it out. otherwise, we can shut the whole site down.

Easy everyone...I don't really seen that much difference to most of the stuff...other then bigger folders (but I think B you said you might change that anyway)...other then that, I find it fairly ok...heck I'm not even on the Council or anything but I remember you guys talking about this at the meeting. Very nice job B.

So sorry if I have other things I want to do with my free time than to show up at every single freakin' meeting. I'm going to say this once: I have other things in my life that take higher priority (at least 99% of the time, the War on the Shore event I went to was an exception, and a waste of time unfortunately) than a position in some Star Wars council on a internet message board. So if I can't make a meeting, the least the rest of the Council can do is keep me updated on these things. And this goes for the policy revisions as well. You know where I'm coming from Brian, I PMed you about my situation, and you know I don't have the time like I used to to check every single thing on the boards. I understand that it was an important Council matter, but I can't be there for everything. It would have been nice to get a quick recap of what was going on, but I guess the rest of the Council would rather treat me like Anakin Skywalker than to help me out. If the decisions will be made without me, then I guess I don't need to be on Council, do I?

I already said my mind about the site. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it before you changed it. Seeing as majority rules, however, I guess noone cares that the site looks worse now!

jedi_bmack wrote:

You think I don't know how a site is ran? I understand it's hard work, and it doesn't just operate on its own like magic. I know you work hard on the site Brian, but as I said before, it worked fine for the longest time.

jedi_bmack wrote:

I felt I needed to say what I needed to say in public because I'm not going to hide how I feel about this whole situation. If you or anyone else is going to think differently about me from here on out because of this, frankly, I don't really care. Someone had to speak out about it.

That's where I stand on this, and noone will steer my opinion otherwise. If you want to kick me from Council, go ahead, have a field day. I don't even feel like visiting this site anymore because of this. So I'd just like to let you know, Brian, that the whole "under the bantha fodder" feeling is mutual.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy as long as the site works. Personally, I love the quick reply feature. It's just so...convenient.
