| Remember...for some the book doesn't even count....besides its George's MOVIES he can do whatever he wants with any of the characters at anytime, I mean he could have killed Jar Jar if he wanted too but he didn't....

All I'm sayin' is that if you're going to allow someone to write a novelization of your movie, you'd better make sure your storyline stays intact. So maybe Shaak Ti should've died by the hand of Grievous in the book... but she didn't.
All that is is shoddy planning on Lucas' part. An organizational guru, he is not.

| Maybe because orginially he did plan to kill Shaak Ti that way...and then after Stover finished the book, then George changed his mind...who knows...but do you think it would better for George just to not allow any novels then if people can't handle the differences...

Shaak Ti was killed by Anakin in the book.

It's called careful management. See, I'm absolutely anal about my characters and storylines, and if they don't work with everything, then I'm likely to rewrite. I'm twitchy about people using the philosophy I developed (for fear of them using it in an absolutely wrong context), I'm not sure I'd ever let anyone use one of my characters, so on and so forth. I may not be the world's most organized person, but I want my story to make sense and not contradict itself.
It's a can of worms he's opened for himself. People are going to notice (obviously), and not just fanbois who have memorized the book. I've read it twice, which isn't that much for me. I'm completely okay with expanded scenes and dialogue- I've always thought the novelizations were better fleshed out than the films. However, that's a pretty major change.
Sure, he can do whatever the heck he wants to his films, that's his perogative. However, that doesn't mean I'm in any way obligated to like or agree with it. I hate how I'm expected to roll over and say, "Well, the Good Lord of Star Wars hath declared a discontinuity, so deal with it. It's his film, so you must love everything he does to it, even if it makes no sense." (this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but the fan community in general- so lovely how people aren't allowed opinions in certain circles anymore... )
Any film put out there can and will be criticized by anyone with a notion to criticize films. Nobody's exempt from this, so gosh darn it, I'm exercizing my right to express my opinion on the addition of the Shaak Ti/General Grievous scene.
It's a bad idea. Will it change anything? No. But I'm not changing my opinion, either, without an extremely compelling argument.

I just don't understand why people think this is important. Star Wars is a work of fiction, not a real universe.
That said, we know that Grievous killed a bunch of Jedi and Anakin killed a bunch of Jedi. Shaak Ti is a minor background character whose contribution to the plot is virtually nonexistent. Does it matter how she is killed?

Depends on the eye of the beholder....for the average person, they wouldn't know the difference...or care that much either...killing a Jedi is killing a Jedi.

Yep, and we go back to the real world when we're done

All I can say is: once you start taking film classes, forever will they dominate your destiny.

Yeah, I absolutely agree. I had 11 pages to my original draft of my story, but realized that the time-line was somewhat inexplainable, so I rewrote it.

As I used to tell my son when he came up to me frustrated about minute details not matching up, "It's a movie!"
When it all comes down to it, its a good story but IT'S NOT REAL. Things aren't going to match up and like the rest of the real world, decisions are made for reasons other than making the story perfect. For example, Grievous lost two arms very quickly in the battle against Obi-Wan. Why? Was there some deep reason for this that added to the story? No, the sword fight guy (I forget his name) didn't like doing the 4-sword battle style so he had Obi-Wan cut two off right away so he could get back to choreographing 2-sworded fighting style.
As you experience life more, you realize that less and less of what happens from a human perspective is anywhere close to being ideal... That's not pessimism, it's just a perspective you need to have if you are going to enjoy anything on this planet and not have constant disappointment. Star Wars is a great thing to enjoy, but enjoy it for what it is.
