Picked up Republic #82 and KOTOR #1 last week. Republic got very serious as they showed Yoda, Luminara and Vos being attacked by their own troops. After the way he and Vos butted heads in the last issue I have to wonder if Commander Faie might of enjoyed executing Order 66 rather than just following orders.
KOTOR #1 was good. I enjoyed it. The first issue introduced the Zayne and set up what will be the rest of the series. There were several laugh out loud moments and a few groaners. A couple of improbable coincidences until you remember this is a Jedi and there are no coincidences. With all the trouble he gets into it is very quickly apparent that the Force has special plans for Zayne, poor kid. I hope the next issue doesn't drop the ball.
I saw the Serenity TPB at the shop last week. |
Haven't read Republic yet, but I didn't care for KOTOR. Nothing about it really jumped out at me as being wrong, it just didn't do anything for me.
By the way, since you brought it up, I was disappointed with Serenity: Those Left Behind. It lacked the fun of the TV show and movie. It's readable, but I'd get it from the library if possible.

Republic #82 was pretty good. Watching Vos get ready to pull a Rambo on his former troops was amusing; all he needs is a compound bow and explosive arrows...Villie redeemed himself, I suppose...still don't trust him!
KOTOR #1... I never got into this storyline since it's inception. The first comic wasn't too bad, but I'm not sure I'll continue reading it. I'll see what the next few issues look like before I add it to my monthly fix.
I figured Don would've known about this:

I'm curious about how it'll turn out; 100 years beyond... looks like one of those grittier storylines that I like.

I read that Johnny O and Jan were doing another Star Wars comic, I just didn't know any details.
That looks awesome.

I'm curious about that new series too. One hundred years after the Legacy of the Force books that are being published soon will give it some necessary distance from Luke & Co. It certainly looks like it will be grittier. I wonder where they will be taking the story.
Don, I had skimmed the Serenity TPB and came to that exact conclusion.

Wow, that definitely looks much grittier than anything that's been in the Star Wars saga through now. Keeping Obi-Wan's whole "it's not as clumsy or random as a blaster" speech in mind, it's weird to think that a Skywalker would take up a blaster instead of a saber given their lineage's respect for the weapon. Almost TOO unrealistic to me. Though Cade would be a cool costume to do... given the right materials, I think I could pull it off.
I can see a potential "Isildor's heir" thing going on... New Sith Order means new baddies who have to be stopped... who better to do it than the rightful heir who chose not to acknowledge his family and their legacy. Give Cade sometime and he might accept his Jedi potential after all.

Picked up another batch of comics today at Recess. I'm not going to say too much about them until other folks have read them, but I'll give a quick rundown:
Republic #83: Vos pulls a "Rambo" on the clone troops, Villie shows his 'good' side and there's a decent finale. I'm glad it ended the way it did.
Empire #39: Things heat up; Luke & "Tank" Sunbar chat about old times, never trust a woman who will sleep with you on the first date and the usual amount of monkey-wrenching that makes a mission interesting. Plus, my favorite Imperial interrogator... I'd like to see her as a recurring villian...

So was I the only one who remembered today was Free Comic Book Day 2006? The Star Wars book was okay, but nothing special. Just your average stand-alone, throw away story.
I also read Clone Wars Adventures Vol. 5. It was a nice read. Most of the Adventures are about 50/50 in the good to crap ratio, but this one was 75/25. "What Goes Up....," "Heroes on Both Sides," and "The Order of Outcasts" were all pretty good. And the other story, "Bailed Out" was okay (but could have been shorter).
On a related note, I was thinking of switching over to all trades for my Star Wars comics. I got Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand last week and realized I'm so far behind reading the monthlies that I was basically reading them a storyline at a time, so why not just wait for the trade paperback and get a nicer, more durable package? And the new series starting up seems like a good time to start.
The only downside is not everything gets reprinted as a trade, so I take the risk of missing something I would like.
I'm still thinking it over, but I'm leaning towards making the shift.

I've been reading Clone Wars 8: The Last Siege, the Final Truth. I really like the Clone Wars graphic novels because they fill in the gap between AOTC and ROTS. They show how the different Jedi were coping with their involvement in the war for the good and the bad. Now I understand how the Jedi ranks were already depleted before Palpatine's purge--either by Jedi deaths or by Jedi leaving the Order or going to the dark side.
I haven't read a lot of the EU. So I'm wondering if anyone know what the ultimate fate of Quinlan Vos is or that of his child. Anyone know?

Smacks self on head.
And I call myself a reference librarian!
Just Googled "Quinlan Vos" and got my answers!
