Several reasons (in no particular order):
1. I'm allergic to Wal-mart.
2. Circuit City is in the Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy part of town.
3. Costco has the most indulgent DVD return policy of which I know.
4. I was going there anyway.
5. Force of habit.

I like #4 the best BUT I would refuse to pay the higher price and would have went to Wal-Mart despite the allergies.

Actually, you can get them at Target stores for $16.99
I picked up the ANH widescreen, mainly because it had the most changes in the SE.
What kills me most is that while checking FYE, which only had Full Screen copies of all 3 movies...the Full Screen SE comes with the Leterbox Theatrical edition. Now I've never understood why people pay good money for only part of the movie, but if you're willin to buy the original version in widescreen, why bother with Full Screen nonesense?

Circuit City was $14.99 with free lithographs.
Yeah the fullscreen in my opinion is not the way to go. My friend complained because he bought ROTS in fullscreen and he cannot even see Aayla in the one scene where she was a holograph because she was cropped off. I told him then that is a valid reason for your money back!

For, what, about $9 total on three films? To me, that's not worth the crowds, the chaos, and the demolition derby in the parking lot.

Interesting. Costco only had widescreen, and not an over-abundance of that. Which is all I buy--unless the film in question is an oldie, and in the 4:3 aspect ratio to begin with.

Good question...
Of course, with the OV available only in widescreen, albeit 4:3 letterbox, one wonders if perhaps the question should be, Why would a fullscreen holdout pay for widescreen OVs?
And another question: Why didn't Lucasfilm offer the OVs in fullscreen for the holdouts?
