"Only my 'new' powers can do that"

This quote got me thinking... are Anakin's Dark Side powers really "new" at all?

Allow me to clarify. It seems like Anakin quickly advances in his overall power in the Force through the Dark Side (granted Lucas only had about 1 hour of screen time to convey this in the second half of ROTS). But I guess my real question is, "Do you think that Anakin really gained any additional powers at all (powers that Jedi simply cannot tap into due to their limited dogma of the Force, preventing them from knowing certain dark "tricks of the trade"), or did he (and all Jedi) have those powers all along, but merely suppress them solely because the Jedi told him to?"

I think Anakin had his Dark Side powers all along, but kept himself in check up until Mace was about to kill Palpy simply because he was trained by the Jedi not to use them. Granted Palpatine probably knows Sith techniques that can enhance Anakin's Dark Side powers, but I think he and all Jedi had the ability to use Dark Side powers all along, so I'm going to say no - his powers aren't "new" after all.

I'm going to have to say no. Mainly because it's not that he "never had these powers" but the fact that everyone had those powers and they just don't realize that/can't tap into that memory/knowladge.
