Ok, so after watching that TV commercial where certain cars (stuck in traffic) lift off the ground and fly over the typical downtown traffic...my dad asked the question: how do you change lanes without causing a mid-air collision?

Which got me thinking (a dangerous prospect...I know) : The background of Coruscant always has row after row of transports, shuttles, and (for lack of a better term) repulsor-cars. The scene where Anakin and Obi-Wan chase down Zam Wessell got me thinking about what do ya say to Coruscant AAA when you break down and crash into somebody's roof or a crowded plaza? Or how bad is the backup after to speeders collide to avoid a jedi padawan base-jumping from an upper level.

As someone getting readjusted to downtown Cleveland rush-hour traffic, just one of those things I pondered while catching the Brookpark line from RTA this week. I mean what does $7.50 Early Bird Parking translate into Republic Credits? Wink

I have wondered about this before, as well... in the real world, people run out of gas all the time... I can only imagine how frequently speeders would drop out of the Coruscant sky mid-flight if they were running on E!

I read something somewhere about how cloud cars stay on course. I can't remember where, though. That probably doesn't help much...

Actually, that's very helpful. So, they'd just lose all momentum, but NOT fall. Unless there was a major power failure (like Zam blasting her own ride) and the speeder crashes down near Outlander Club.

After having lived in Boston with the worst, angriest drivers in the world, I really can't imagine our society ever making flying cars work. There are too many idiotic people who think they own the road, and when that road becomes 3-D instead of restricted to the ground - we're all dead, seriously.

I can't believe I'm still around after being both a pedestrian and passenger in the Boston insanity. That's one thing I surely don't miss. Any time I complain about stupid people driving in Canton, I remember that it can always be much, much worse.

And this is coming from someone who survived a pretty nasty car accident, so I'd call her somewhat of an expert in this department.

Science Fiction has suggesting flying cars as a possibility for as long as there's been sci-fi. I mean just think about the opening scene of "The Jetsons" and you'll know what I mean. Sure it looks good in the background of a movie or TV screen, but everytime some idiot can't drive in 2 direction...I realize we're a LONG way off from ever adding UP and DOWN in the Driver's Ed manual.

I still remember this story even tho it has been 8 years since I took Driver's Ed... my instructor was telling my class stories he'd experienced with idiot drivers, so that hopefully we wouldn't repeat their mistakes.

Well one time he was riding with some girl, whom he told to pass the car ahead of her. The girl threw the gear to P, and the transmission basically fell out of the car and there was smoke pouring out everywhere... When the instructor asked the girl why she did that, she said, "I put the car in P for Pass."

If she'd had been killed in that little incident, I'd have nominated her for a Darwin Award.

As long as there are people like that on the road... there's no way we should be driving hover cars!

Always a pleasure to help a jedi... Wink
