Alrighty.... I finally made it down to Recess to pick up my comic stash. I ended up with both Empire #35 & #36, and the first issue of X-Wing: Rogue Leader.
Empire #35: Great issue; Imperial efficiency at it's best. Interesting twist at the end, though
Empire #36: The start of a new Sunber storyline. I'm just surprised that the planetary commander didn't blow up the tanker when he had the opportunity. But I think the one thing that clued me in to the fact that they crew wasn't what they appeared to be... was the cut of that one female crewman's uniform (remember the "gravity-defying Captain Bex" from an earlier issue ). I hope they're finally done with that Jabiim storyline... that one was getting old
The stormtroopers look like they came from a different clone stock- not the Jango Fett clones- for some reason, they had more of a 'Roman' look with their facial features and hair style. I figured they'd have been bald (wearing a helmet of any kind over an extended period of time with any amount of hair can become itchy & uncomfortable, but the shorter, the better. You also avoid "Helmet-Head Syndrome", where your shock absorbtion straps dig into your hair and leave obvious furrows until you wash it. I'd at least have made them get 'high & tight' haircuts, but hey, that's just me )
X-Wing: Rogue Leader #1: The huge critter with the "trophy" rack on his belt cracked me up, but I would think that the Rebels (being the "good guys") would have at least secured all Imperial prisoners on the planet and not left them to the tender mercies of the Ewoks. Salvage duty in space must be interesting- I'd hate being an Imperial pilot with no life support other then his chest box, and be trapped in a cockpit until I suffocated to death...imagine the salvage team finding one that actually survived. Imperial commandos with an RPG...nice touch.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this allotment. I can't wait for next months

Clone Wars Adventures Volume 4 is out. I really liked "Orders." It was the first Adventures short that I can recall getting an emotional reaction out of me. I don't want to spoil it, though, so I won't say what happens.
"Another Fine Mess" was amusing, and "Descent" was pretty good, too, even if I do hate it when they translate wookieese. "The Brink" was okay, but the weakest of the lot this time out.

Well, I went to Recess earlier today to pick up my monthly fix. Here's what I got:
Republic #79: Great issue; the surviving Jedi are on the run, and trying to survive. New characters, which means new plotlines. I love it. One of them named Dass Jennir looks a bit like a certain blond-haired elf from another movie franchise. The second deals with a Knight & Padawan on a wintery planet. I hope they decide to continue with this type of storyline- plenty of possibilities.
X-Wing Rogue Leader #2: Introduced a new Imperial general; real mean sucker, too. Scouts getting plenty of action. I love it.
Empire #37: Reminds me of a few RPGs I've played. Sunber is making an impression on his fellow officers, and gives a hint of his feelings about the slaves. I'm interested in seeing how this storyline goes. I'm waiting for some Imperial officer to chew out Luke Skywalker for not getting a haircut. That interrogator...I can't express my feelings about her on this thread...but let's just say that she caught my eye Unfortunately, "Lt. Shan" is a Rebel, but she fills out that Imperial uniform nicely.
Definately a good purchase today. I'm definately looking forward to next month

I enjoyed Republic #79. We got to see some different Jedi, some very briefly, but the new potential plot lines look like they will be interesting. A certain blond elf? Right down to the flowing green, embroidered robes. But they forgot the pointy ears. It's only a three issue arc but I hope the next issue is as good as this one.
X-Wing Rogue Leader #2 I wasn't too impressed with this issue. Lots of things blowing up, people running around screaming, etc. It's not bad but when I read X-Wing I think I'm expecting Stackpole's writing. Sometimes when I get to read the entire arc I like it better.
Empire #37 is continuing a good story. It does read like a RPG. I'm looking forward to the next issue.

I can't express my feelings here either. I'm sure there is now some very bad, very unprintable fan fic out there about her. You mean Lt. "let me bend over this console in a tight uniform" Shan? Did either of the Imps even look at what she was working on? Well whatever works.

As long as it's well-written, it's all good to me
Unfortunately, it'd probably be some fat, zit-faced freaky fanboy writing it...

All joking aside, I'd say she's playing her role well...besides, Imperials are people too, ya know? we're sensitive beings with feelings besides galaxy-wide domination...we appreciate beauty in all it's forms

Of course you do.
As an officer that Captain probably appreciates someone who knows their way around a data chart. Add to that, it's a good-looking, smart woman who suddenly starts paying attention to him, he didn't stand a chance.

It's the military- trust me, on any post, especially in any unit that allows a mix of men and women, the guys scope out the new girls coming in. Unless it's a difference in rank (Enlisted/NCO, Enlisted/Officer, NCO/Officer, junior NCO/senior NCO, junior officer/senior officer in the same chain of command), the 'fraternization' rule doesn't really come into play. Some are more strict about enforcing it, however.
Outside of the prisoner population, how many females are in the planetary garrison? two that we've seen. Other then EU, the Empire hasn't been known to integrate males & females in the service. They're on a planet, in a garrison away from any major civilian population (other then slaves), so a chance to hook up with someone is few and far between. The Imperial military strikes me as being one of those organizations where the "RHIP" rule (Rank Has It's Privilages) is in effect. Shan's an officer- she probably wouldn't fool around with any of the Enlisted/NCOs.
Besides that, she's playing off of natural human instinct- in other words, he may be an officer, but she knows he's looking to hook up as much as the next guy.

Merry Christmas from Dark Horse, this week I picked up Republic #80, Empire #38 and X-Wing #3. Also Samurai: Heaven and Earth #5 came out last week for anyone who missed it.
I enjoyed both of these issues of Republic that focused on characters outside the regular storyline. Both adult Jedi chose a different path after Order 66 but for each of them it seemed to be the right path. I do have an issue with Kai Huddora giving Noriah a pouch of money and telling her to go make a life for herself. I know a Bothan and Human girl traveling together would catch the attention of the authorities but he basically abandoned her on Coruscant. Was that the best way to send her on way? Forget everything you learned about being a Jedi and the Force and live, bye? The open way the story ended there is a chance that we could see more of any of these characters in later issues.
I haven’t had a chance to read the other two, maybe sometime this weekend. I’m looking forward to Empire. Up next Republic #81-83, goodbye Quinlan Vos?

I finally picked up my batch of comics Wednesday night.
Republic #80: Great story. I figured that Jedi the troopers blasted on the steps of the Jedi Temple would have had enough common sense not to turn himself into a pop up target for the guards. The ending was interesting- I could see some of the surviving Jedi turning guerilla and leading native populations against the new Imperial occupation forces. Great story arc. The Bothan should have kept the young Padawan with him- at least get her off of Corusant to an Outer Rim planet. Something tells me she's either going to turn into a gangbanger in the lower levels or wind up dead...
Empire #38: More twists and turns. Sunber is definately a character I could respect- he's a man of honor. The intervention between the prisoner and his fellow officer tells me he's in for trouble, but he stood up for whats right. I don't know if he'd willingly switch sides, but Sunber will undoubtably pay for his actions. The whole romantic liason between Shan and the Captain was no surprise; I'm guessing she got personally involved and feels bad about sending the young Captain off to certain death.
X-Wing #3: It was alright... I think they could have done more with it, and given the story a better ending. Just my feeling on it.
Samurai: Heaven & Earth #5: I loved it. Fighting the Musketeers. And the next Chapter starts in January

Picked up Republic #81 ("The Hidden Enemy" Pt 1 of 3) and the "Jedi Purge" one-shot.
Republic #81: Started off pretty good. I don't like Villie.
Jedi Purge one-shot: Tsui Choi was annoying. The eight Jedi vs Darth Vader... well, he gave them a fair chance

| Dark Horse's Free Comic Book Day title will once again have a Star Wars story. This time it will be a Star Wars/Conan flip book. No other information was given at this time.

Republic #81 was a decent story. I like Quinn so it was nice to get more of him. It would of been nice to of read this back in May when we were suppose to but better late than never. I always found Villie to a rather annoying but necessary plot device. After all you can't have a Jedi doing bad things so Villie gets to do them.
Parts of Purge were good and parts were ok. Showing Vader before he has learned the self control that he had in ANH was cool. If the Jedi he was facing had had their act together they would of succeeded. But their failure just shows why the Emperor succeeded in destroying the Order in the first place.
They are also suppose to have a special KOTOR/Rebellion $0.25 issue sometime in February.

Picked up Republic #82 and KOTOR #1 last week. Republic got very serious as they showed Yoda, Luminara and Vos being attacked by their own troops. After the way he and Vos butted heads in the last issue I have to wonder if Commander Faie might of enjoyed executing Order 66 rather than just following orders.
KOTOR #1 was good. I enjoyed it. The first issue introduced the Zayne and set up what will be the rest of the series. There were several laugh out loud moments and a few groaners. A couple of improbable coincidences until you remember this is a Jedi and there are no coincidences. With all the trouble he gets into it is very quickly apparent that the Force has special plans for Zayne, poor kid. I hope the next issue doesn't drop the ball.
I saw the Serenity TPB at the shop last week.
