Joe Corroney's issue of Empire is #25, due to come out Oct. 25th for those of you waiting for it. They've got a preview up on the Upcomming page at Darkhorse.
Edit: I just finished updating the upcoming and filling in what I had missed. I noticed that so far none of the Empire TPB have names, all the Republic ones do. Why do you think thats so?

Different writers?
<shrug>
One thing I wish they would do is bring back Lt. Janek Sunber as an ongoing storyline. There's a lot of potential for this character. If they do, I hope that they don't have him 'switch sides' and join the Rebel Alliance after a few issues (seems like they do that a bit too often ).

Empire's first trade was called "Betrayal," the second "Darklighter." Volume 3 is called "Imperial Perspective."

Thanks Don, DH didn't post the titles on the website.

I hope do to. That is my favorite Empire story. In just three issues they created a character that I really like. I would love to see more of him. I can't see him defecting to the Alliance. He seems to me to be more the type of person who would consider it his duty to stay with the Empire and work to change it from within.

I saw Joe's issue (Empire #25) yesterday, when I picked up my CLONE WARS vol. 2 (still need volume 1) paperback. IT was cool seeing Joe's name listed in a Star Wars comic book...and the artwork looks great!

I picked up Empire #25 on Wednesday- pretty good finish to the story. I'm interested to see what next issue will bring.
I think out of all the SW titles on the market, this series is one of the best. The 'moment in history' or 'a day in the life' concept (especially when they portray the little known or unknown characters outside of the main story) gives the reader the impression that everything doesn't revolve around the main characters we all know so well. The galaxy is a big place, after all, and there are thousands of stories out there to be told.

I picked up Empire #25 and Tales #21 this week.
I enjoyed Empire. It was a good story, Chewie didn't tear anyone's arms off but he threw a mean crate. I like the flying at the end. It established Sheel Odala as a good pilot and left the door open for her to come back in later issues. And she has an original name, not a recycled one. If you want a Wookie tearing arms off read Medstar II: Jedi Healer. A Wookie looses a game and tears a droids arm off.
I thought Tales #21 was very good. But then 1 & 2 were good too. The timeline in the front is easy to understand. Mike, if you're not interested in buying this one at least read the second story. Very good. It's Empire Era and has Vader recruiting a guy to form a special squadron Hopefully they will be able to maintain this level for more than a few issues.
I noticed somting from Republic #69. When Obi-Wan hears the Jedi distress signal he mentions 3 names, one is Master Jerec. Do you think this the same Jerec from Dark Forces or are they just recycling names?

To tell you the truth- I never really paid much attention to SW: Tales; the artwork and most of the stories didn't appeal to me (the few I looked at were a bit too silly or were drawn poorly). I'll check it out, though. I noticed the advertisements in several past issues of Empire & Republic, and how Tales was going to be changing a bit. If so, I might just add it to my monthly comic fix.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the same Jerec. I haven't played the game...but according to the "Essential Guide to Characters" (version 2):
At the time of the Clone Wars, Jerec was a full-fledged jedi knight, blind since birth and tasked with seeking out rare artifacts in far corners of the galaxy.
It would seem that many EU authors are startig to connect some of the loose ends, that couldn't be explored before GL produced the prequels. THere are so many smaller storylines/characters tht can be explored and developed, that EU can keep SW going long after Episode III hits theaters.

In all honestly, I was disappointed with both Empire #25 and Tales #21.
Empire's story was kind of rushed. You had Sheel having a change of heart almost immediately, then rescuing Han inside of 3 pages. I think/hope this two-parter was maybe setting up a future storyline for her. I would be remiss, however, if I didn't mention that Joe Corroney did a great job on the art. The scenes of the space chase were very fluid, something that is very hard to convey in line art.
Tales, to me, was a favorite for the stories they couldn't tell in the regular comics. The really insane humor where Yoda and Mace Windu have a talk like Vinnie Vega and Jules from Pulp Fiction. There was nothing wrong with the new stories, just that there was also nothing special about them. "Nomad" could have been an issue of Republic; "Walking the Path that's Given" could have been an Empire story. The only one that truly belonged in Tales was the Kyle Kataran New Jedi Order story. And that was the only story that really interested me. Ronin Jedi ("Nomad") has been done and no Imperial officer in his right mind would try to cross Vader like the guy in "Walking" is.

Don, I liked some of the Infinities style stories but I don't think most of them were all that good, especially in the end. I wanted more cannon stories. I did like some of the more outlandish stories but they were not enough to make up for the duds. Not when Tales costs $5.95.
I hope they bring back Sheel. She was a good character. I do think she may of changed her mind a bit quick but then we don't know if she has ever had to watch a friend be tortured before.
Republic #70 should be in the stores now. I'll have my copy soon.
I have some great news Mike. There is going to be another Sunber story. I was poking around the Darkhorse boards and discovered Randy Stradley saying "... oh, yeah, and I promised Davidé Fabbri and Christian Dalla Vecchia a follow-up Sunber story... " Don't know when it will come out or how many issues but he'll be back.
I think introducing and developing new characters and weaving them into the main story is going to be one of Empire's strongpoints.

Another reason to look forward to the future I think they need to keep Sunber as a recurring storyline, being played out until the events in ROTJ. But, that's just my opinion
I also picked up Republic #70 today- good stuff. The storyline escalates (as if I really needed to tell you that ). The writers are already starting to plant the seeds for the future in various characters (young Dodonna makes his feelings known about orders and principles).
I also picked up the TPB of Empire Vol. 2 today. I need Vol. 1 to catch up on some of the previous stories (unfortunately, I had been collecting comics sporadically, and missed quite a few back then )

Republic #70 is very good. It packed a lot into one issue with a little bit for everyone without dropping the ball on anyone. I loved the banter between Quinlan and Obi-Wan. You can believe these two have been friends.
If Obi-wan keeps losing ships this fast its no wonder he doesn't like flying. Speaking of ships, Anakin has named his the Angel. I guess he's formed a bit of an attachment to it? I loved his dialog at the end, almost right out of Luke's trench run in ANH. I like the way this storyline is shaping up.

Empire #26 was something I'd been waiting for the EU folks to come up with...introducing Clone Wars era wreckage into post-ANH storylines. It's centered around Red Squadron being stationed on a jungle (not Yavin 4) planet and Luke comes across the remains of a Republic Gunship. Shortly there after, all frell breaks loose...including an Imperial air and ground assault Add to that mess an "unexpected" surprise; like we all don't have an idea of who the mysterious 3rd party in the battle will look like
I finally got around to picking up Empire #25...and I'm curious, there are a number of moments where Joe seems to take an already existing photograph, and blend it into the scene. One in particular is like 100% dead on with a Hyperspace picture of Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca. Just curious if he does use them as reference for his artwork (amazingly accurate BTW)
