Ok, I was watching ROTJ and have always had questions about the following, hopefully someone can explain.
1. When the shield generator blows up, it's a huge explossion that looks like it takes out a large part of the forest, yet Han and the rest of the rebels that just ran about 10 feet away from the bunker are completely fine.
2. Who is the Imperial officer that says they are beatting back the rebals and need reinforcements. Does he have a blaster to his head, or is this just Han doing a good impression of an Imperial?
3. When the Emperor is thrown down the shaft and dies, what's the blue rushing wind that comes up the shaft?

1.) Just a mishap in the movie. There are lots of incorrect "scaled" explosions and such. Movies are full of them.
2.) It's Han dressed-up as an Imperial Officer. If you've read the young Han Solo trilogy, you'll find that Han was once an Imperial officer.
3.) Palpatine was so consumed by the Dark-Side that it not only crippled his body (as seen in RotS) but it caused his body to literally 'explode' with Dark-Side energy. When the mad clone Joruus C'Boath died in The Last Command, he too 'blew-up'.

Back when everything had to be done with models, the physics of special effects had a tendancy to get out of proportion with what is physically possible. Which is a long winded way of saying..."oops!"
From an in-unvierse standpoint, the bunker entrance (where the Rebels attack) was refered to as "the back door" meaning it could be fairly removed from the part of the shield generator we see explode, or where Luke is delivered to Vader in the AT-AT. If wasn't until recently that any EU material even mentioned the damage done to the landscape of Endor...after the battle. (Star Destroyer wrekage)

Good point. There is a website on the actual physical aspects of Star Wars, which can be found here. www.theforce.net/swtc/index.html

They also made an action figure of Han in AT-ST uniform. Came out in the "Saga" years I believe.

Technically there's no sound in space either.

I would say that, movie wise, the charges were shaped, not too hard to do really.... it would explain it in my opinion as to why it exploded 'up' rather than 'out'.
And why wasn't half the forest on fire too? or is there a Ewok Fire Brigade that we didn't see putting the fire out? hehe

I thought it was just the AT-ST helmet?

No, that did play a small role.

Too bad for him he didn't order an Ewok Enchilada... might've got one or two of the little buggers who helped blow the Death Star up, preventing it from happening.
Every little Ewok counts!

| Actually, if you read some behind-the-scenes thing (i don't remember where i read it) it says that the explosion did blow up a lot of trees, much to the dismay of the model guy who rented the trees from a Lionel train collecting shop.
