 JKOC helping in the community...again!
September is always a busy time for many worthy charity events: heartwalks, fundraisers for cancer research, and organizations looking for the cure to a variety of disease that effect children. If there was ever a time for The Jedi Knights of Cleveland to get involved...now's the time!

In what has become an annual event for us, The American Heart Association asked if any of our local Rebel Legion and 501st members would be available to be part the AHA Heartwalk. This year's event (hosted by Akron University) would be the third year in a row that JKOC has helped out. As always, the JKOC team volunteered to operate one of the water stations as well as pose for pictures with several walkers, volunteers, and special guests of the event. The people from AHA Akron wanted to thank us for our continued support of their fight against cardiovascular diseases and stroke. For a recap of all the day's events, visit the JKOC Archives

Meanwhile, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Walk hosted a walk benefitting The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Several of our friends joined the Ohio Garrison team and walked the 5K course (in armor). While many described the journey as an "uphill" battle, then entire team finished the course. In addition to the walk, the troopers posed for pictures with fellow JDRF walkers and Star Wars fans of all ages. This marks the second year Ohio Garrison has fielded a team for the Cleveland area JDRF walk.

Congratulations to Beltayn and his team on a most impressive "Imperial March."

Bowl For Kids' Sake 2006 - UPDATE
Rebel Strike Team landed at Freeway Lanes (Wickliffe) to participate in the 2006 Bowl For Kids' Sake fundraising campaign. The afternoon of bowling was the perfect end to a very successful campaign.

Rebel Strike Team saw a change in command, as Padme92 took over as team captain. In addition to a new leader, this year's squad featured seven new recruits, with only Padme92 and Krash returning from last year's squad.

For a full recap of the day, visit the Jedi Archives

Overall, Rebel Strike Team raised an record-breaking $2,731.00 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland. This amazing accomplishment ranked our team second out of 100 local community and business organizations registered for the fundraiser. It also sets a JKOC record for the most money raised for a single charity.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is the largest provider of one-to-one youth mentoring services in the United States. They have been bringing caring adults into the lives of our nation’s children for over 100 years.

The Charity Force of the Northcoast!
If you've recently been part of one of the many local charity fundraising events in the area, you may have recognized some characters from a galaxy far, far, away. The truth is... those people are ALL from northeastern Ohio, and they are part of The Jedi Knights of Cleveland's continuing effort to support local charities.

Recently, The Jedi Knights of Cleveland were featured on Bantha Tracks Online for being very invloved with local charities. That's a reputation we are very proud to continue, and the following is a recap of our most recent events:

JKOC News: JDRF Walk - September 17th
Nobody questions the strength of an Imperial walker coming into view over the horizon on Hoth. However, there is an even more impressive sight: when Star Wars fans get active in helping others.

For a number of years, Ohio Garrison 501st has been involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walkathon. Now, we are happy to announce that there will also be a Cleveland team, consisting of our friends who are part of both Ohio Garrison and The Jedi Knights of Cleveland.

On Setember 17th, the Cleveland team from Ohio Garrison will be at The Cleveland Metropark Zoo participating in the 10K walk. And if that wasn't enough, they will be doing so in full Imperial armor!

For a complete listing of the Ohio Garrison JDRF walkers, click here

According to the JDRF website:
More than one million Americans have type 1 diabetes, a disease most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime, and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Thanks to dramatic research progress, a cure is now within our reach.
